Design Commission for Wales

Initiatives

Working with our partners to champion good design.

The Commission often identifies opportunities for collaboration with partner organisations in order to highlight design issues and promote broader awareness.

Initiatives

The Commission is pleased to play an integral part in initiatives which highlight the importance of good design for the built environment and the quality of the places where we live. We are keen to demonstrate the ways in which well designed places contribute to economic value, stimulate regeneration and promote well-being.

We are a small team and whilst we are flexible and light on our feet, we carefully assess what contribution we can make at the outset, so as to identify partners that share our values and projects that reflect our aims.

Design can be a complex process, and difficult for many to understand. We are therefore keen to hear about initiatives that help to focus on a key element of the process or demystify it so as to broaden understanding amongst professionals and lay people.

What kind of initiatives do we partner?

The Commission is interested in building capacity with initiatives such as seminars, exhibitions, debates, charrettes or tours of particular projects. Such events maximise opportunities to learn and exchange knowledge; some may be organised by us directly or through one of our networks. Such events work best when they focus on specific topics and invite the participation of audiences that may include project delivery partners, local community members, relevant decision makers and other interested parties.

Our aim is always share knowledge and experience, to capture the lessons and apply the learning to other projects or initiatives, beyond the life of the original event.
