Chief Executive

Carole-Anne Davies

Chief Executive of the Design Commission for Wales, one of four UK Commissions established to champion good design and a high quality built environment, Carole-Anne is also a trustee of the National Museums and Galleries of Wales and chair of mesa ltd. She was a member of the CABE advisory panel for PROJECT, promoting collaboration between artists and architects and has contributed to professional and post-graduate training at the Portuguese Centre for Design, Lisbon, and the University of Barcelona. Carole-Anne currently chairs the Landscape Institute Awards panel for Landscape Policy. She was awarded the Welsh Woman of the Year Award for Arts & Media in 2005.

Development Director

Wendy Richards

Development Director at the Commission Wendy is qualified in both landscape architecture and urban design, and was formerly an Associate with Austin Smith Lord, Cardiff. Wendy first joined DCFW as a Design Review Panel member, and was appointed a Commissioner between 2006 and 2007. During that time Wendy was Principal Urban Designer at Newport City Council with responsibility for large applications linked to the large scale regeneration in the city. Wendy has considerable international experience of design and the development context, notably South East Asia, and is a representative of the Landscape Institute Wales.

Head of Design Review

Cindy Harris

Cindy leads DCFWs Design Review Service and is an expert in teaching sustainable design and construction to a wide range of audiences. Cindy joined the Commission after 17 years at the Centre for Alternative Technology in Machynlleth. Author of two books on environmental and timber frame building and often acting as a consultant, Cindy also has experience in site and project management and has developed skill building and education programmes for professionals and lay audiences, in the UK and Australia.

Office Manager

Sue Jones

Sue is DCFWs Office Manager with responsibility for team support, administration, finance and Health and Safety at Work. Sue has 30yrs experience in managerial and supervisory roles as well as administration and finance, the public and private sectors. Sue holds a Masters in Business Administration and is experienced in employee welfare and team development. Sue has a strong track record in financial control, government funding mechanisms, policy development and contractual and personnel management at senior level.

Design Review Assistant

Charlie Deng

A PhD student at Cardiff University, researching the design dimension of the Chinese urban planning system, Charlie joined DCFW in 2005 as Design Review Assistant and provides vital support to the programme. Charlie also contributes to the research and layout of DCFW publications and supports DCFW events and seminars. Charlie holds a Bachelor degree in planning from China and a Masters degree in City and Regional Planning from Cardiff University. He has worked on and led several teams delivering urban design projects in China and Nigeria.

Local Development Plans Assistant

Anna Lermon

A Chartered Town Planner Anna works closely with DCFWs Development Director on on the provision of strategic design advice for Local Development Plans. Anna joined DCFW as a DCFW/ESRC funded PhD Research Fellow examining Design quality in Wales and the practices and concerns of local planning authorities. Prior to her PhD Anna worked at the Welsh School of Architecture on a European Union funded project looking at Practical Evaluation Tools for Urban Sustainability, www.petus.eu.com and in the Planning and Local Government Team at CPRE before joining a Welsh Local Planning Authority.
